If they ask for an offer before i have an opportunity to ask for a price then your sentiment is understandable. Dodging the question just has both parties going in circles. A better approach to a buyer asking for a price is to set your price on the high end, then let the buyer negotiate you down. If the buyer doesn't want to negotiate then that's on them.

Why is that automatically better?
You are free to anchor with an equally low price instead of asking.

I don't want to insult the seller with a lowball offer, it's often met with some juvenile response that i'll inevitably have to remedy with the squelch function.

Ok. I can understand how you would be annoyed as a buyer, since it would seem expedient for them to close the deal fastest by starting with a number. But you seem to have some rules in mind about negotiation that the other person hasn't necessarily agreed to when you entered their room. The person who gives a number first is at a disadvantage. In this situation, it looks to me that each party in the negotiation are acting in their own interests, and personally I'm ok with that. So I guess I'm saying that it doesn't bother me because it is rational behavior and I expect them to do it. But I can see your point of view and I've experienced that frustration before.

What is it with people joining lobbies just to use their stash and then leave without saying anything? It's like ooo buyer- ah nevermind...

Same thing happens on the other side too. You name a price for them and they start mocking the price you list.

Sometimes I see someone is looking to buy something that I have, I'll join a game and they ask what do I want for it. But I wasn't necessarily planning on selling it, so I haven't researched the price. Granted this means I will probably only take an offer on the upper end of what I guess it is (so as to minimize the chance I ask way too low), unless it is something I feel is burning a hole in my stash.

But in that case, I don't want to name a price first - you're the one that said you wanted to buy it. You had time to research it and I am assuming you did, I didn't. The outcomes 90% of the time if I name a price first are:
- I name a price that's accidentally too high. Dude will usually mock you and say it is way too high.
- I name a price that is reasonable market. Dude will usually mock you and say it is way too high.
- I name a price that is accidentally too low. Dude will usually still mock you for it being too high, or if it is an absolute steal enough he will take it.

I tend to skip vague WTB games with no price for that reason. And usually if they are willing to offer a price it is some super lowball.

Definitely sounds reasonable tp just skip.

Personally I usually do the same and don't engage at all. I especially don't enter a "BRG X" room either, unless I see an advertised price, or I already have one in mind. I have zero expectation that person will agree to a fair price.

Now if they enter *my* room and start mocking, I just stop responding until they get the message and leave. It's annoying and unfortunately comes with the territory.
