Why did no one tell me, that Latent Sundercharms can drop in Non-Ladder?

A A A A A R R R G G H H ! ! !

How could I not know?

My biggest motivation to play Ladder was me thinking, that Latent Sundercharms drop in Ladder only.
And that I have to leave my beloved Non-Ladder Characters in order to face the dangers in Ladder ill-equipped for to wrench those juicy new charms from the monsters' cold dead hands, because my Nonladder characters needed them sooooo dearly...

And now, while happily sprinting my new Dragon-HolyFiredin through terrorized Worldstonekeep there just drops a golden Grand Charm from the very first T1 Herold...
And I think: Ah, cool, another Geeds for my collection... But then, I shan't trust my eyes, after identifying I see a new

Cold Rupture.. and I go: "Wait... this is Nonladder... err... what, how...... WHOOOOOOT ??" o.0

Here and now, I shall travel to

Tristram and put myself into the pillory we all found

Deckard Cain in.
You all, travel to yonder place, bring along your rotten eggs and cabbages and let me feel scoff and mock - I surely have earned it...


Why do I write this? I have the slightest (though most probably unrealistic) hope, that someone gets to learn that he does not have to play Ladder in order to drop Latent Sundercharms.

I mean this altruistic (In fact it would surely help my ego, if I am not the only dolt who confused this...)

To be fair, ladder opens up a whole new realm of trading so that's far from counterproductive if you don't just want "any random latent" but are actually looking for renewed with specific rolls.

When in doubt, play both, trade wherever needed.

Maybe, because I assumed Blizz introducing the new Latent Sundercharms will keep them to Ladder only to have a further incentive for the players to make them start Ladder after Ladder again.... I don't know...

Or maybe I am just an idiot... -.-

Maybe, with 53 now, it is time to stop playing Video games and realign my hobbies more into boules, or stamp-collecting, or other old-people-stuff...

The older I get, the more attracted I am towards boules as well. Collecting stamps on the other hand... not my cup of tea.

Maybe you didn’t think of it at the time, but when RoTW was released (which was when latent sunder charms were introduced), there was no active ladder season. They ended season 12 ahead of the big 30 year anniversary stream, then later the same day (announced during said stream) they launched RoTW, and then only ~9 days later did ladder season 13 even start. Normally there’s only a 15 minute window between a season ending and the next one starting, but they gave us a 9 day window between seasons 12 and 13, during which RoTW was released - if latent sunder charms had been ladder-only (or any of the new uniques, sets or rune words that were introduced), then nobody would have been able to acquire them until that first RoTW season started. That would have been… a bit counterproductive when you want people to try the new content.

(and they have never before locked something to be ladder-only after it had already been available on non-ladder, whether in D2:LoD or D2R, as far as I know)

Although the new latent sunder charms were introduced right beginning of RoTW, blizz even told us it is the

Herald drops it. But nobody was expecting that the drop rate of latent sunder charm was that low, like 1 in the million - from T5

Completely understandable. The good stuff usually drops on ladder first for a season before spreading to non ladder. But I guess the new content was just too significant to leave to ladder only?

It was released together with new DLC, would have been kinda cruel to not let people try the new stuff on their existing characters on NL - not to mention the fact that there was no ladder at all when RoTW was released, as I explained above
