Maybe...
All warlocks gain a free (and forced) respec
....
The bound demons will all die in the process as consequence...
(So no "old version" Bind Demon)
But everybody can now free respec their now "rebalenced" skills
[..]
I have a question in mind, though: What happens if I bind a cursed Hepasto with Conviction in ladder and carry it into non-ladder?
The ladder/non-ladder part wouldn't make a difference as the patch will apply to both once released.
If they include a forced respec for locks then there's your answer as that would also remove all existing bound demons.
If they don't, then we just don't know how it plays out. They could still remove all bound demons. They could also apply the aura replacement to all existing ones. Or they could conveniently forget about it and leave existing ones as they are, despite being a relic and no longer obtainable in that way.
Either way, IF you plan to attempt to keep a Conviction heph through the patch, make sure you respec based on the changes first, then get your heph again and then just wait and see what happens.
If you don't first respec into 20 pts to bind, odds are it'll run a validity check either way, notice that your skill doesn't support super uniques and will auto-kill him for you even if the patch itself wouldn't. Or at least that's what should happen..no guarantees blizz won't f that up. ^^
Where did you get this from? Haven't seen this in the patch notes.
It's what Skaijuice had hoped for. Not that they did so.
haha yes. 99 is just neither here nor there.
I kinda like the 99 limit. Or at least not having it even higher.
More than high enough for nearly every errrm "non-JSP person"/all but the most hardcore of traders.
But still low enough to seem reasonable, not entirely eliminate the restrictive nature of D2 item hording and hence not become obscenely inflationary due to hundreds upon hundreds of HRs being readily available to throw at anything for a precious few while most avg. players can no longer ever afford anything decent.
Plus it saves me from stock-piling up for a "way too long and insanity-triggering" 999+ RW reroll session.
why would anyone think warlocks are overpowered?
lol
they are OP AF and I love it.
I hope someone makes like a patch selecting mod for single player, id get off battle net and continue enjoying my power fantasy (yes i was bullied in school)

It gets boring fast.
When everything gets too easy, I lose interest.
This kills the game quickly.

Frankly, It is hard for me to understand how this could have happened in the first place. Anyone with at least a bit experience in playing D2 should have noticed that this is way over the top. In any case, this speaks volumes about quality control at Blizzard and also raises lingering doubts about the competence of the "top streamers" involved in the testing process.
After a 20 year break from D2 I started playing D2R in 2024 with my sons (9 and 10 years old)

His rough guess/calculations say all changes, if were implemented as written in the memo, would decrease damag output to 13% of current state for ES Warlock.
And that still might be broken for the max damage builds.
Mixed feelings, because it will probably remove availability of all medium builds with your favourite weapon and force players into 1-2 best in slot combinations which will remain very strong. But I guess it has to be done.

From patch 1.13:
Blizzard wrote:Respecialization is now possible! Completing the 'Den of Evil' quest will now additionally reward 1 free respec which can be saved. Players who have already completed this quest should receive 1 free respec in Hell difficulty.
Maybe they will do the same this time (for those who already used all 3 free respecs)?

"Like a God!"
I'm going to miss doing 31k damage with my level 80 Echoing Strike Warlock.

Thanks so much for the link to the video. I watched the whole thing - them explaining the calculations and giving their opinions and STILL saying it'll probably be OP was super interesting. However, their reasoning is on point and important for the longevity of D2.
Also, that it's just PTR and not the actual update/final changes was refreshing to think about amongst all the "Rain on the warlock" doomposting.
The question I have is if this is all they have planned. Simply nerf Warlock but then dont rebalance any other classes or add anything new.
Exactly this; they aren't adding anything of value, just taking things away. It isn't even really what I would call balancing... They could have implemented less than half of these changes and it would've balanced warlock without forcing every lock player to completely respec and throw out a ton of endgame gear.
This is the result of the typical managerial "more work done means I did a better job" nonsense. What were most likely a few individual suggestions for balancing became a tidal wave of bad decisions because the project leaders wanted to be seen being "proactive"....

Yes, but the Key thing he said in the video is that it will still be strong for the TOP ES builds. Which is what I gathered when I said previously that it will be painful to level with ES now, and you will simply switch to that build once you have some GG gear.
ES build is very point-hungry and with all the hard points required in the Demonic Mastery as well as now requiring AR to hit enemies you simply dont have enough points to go around without said gear.
You are forced into two-hander if you want to use ES because of the 75% WPN DMG used and thus into grimoires so your options are severely limited.
You will either be too squishy since you wont have demons to protect you and you had to Sacrifice your rings/amu for FCR and AR, or not deal enough damage cause you either cant land hits (because of AR issues) or attack too slow since you require FCR but you couldn't get FCR and AR.
You get stretched too thin across all the things you require (didnt even mention points for Consume) and this can only be countered by BiS/crafted gear.
Now, do I believe these changes were justified? Most certainly, I agree with almost all of them except from the AR being a requirement and/or "Demonic Mastery" requiring hard points for the number of demons you can summon. I do believe they will roll back some of these changes after the Beta test, hopefully it will be the correct ones. Time will tell.
P.S. If anything it's even sadder not seeing any other balance changes for the myriad of useless unique items or balance changes for classes like Druid/Bard.
Just for info, on d4, we had some nerfs bringing some builds to ajout 5% of the damage they used to do. But they were so OP that they were still S-tier for endgame contents.
That's the same as government taxes : the important part is not what they remove, but what remains. And for ES, was clearly too strong, so a nerf makes sense. The remainder still seems strong.
Anyway, warlocks followed the same rule as any new class / item with Blizz : op to Attract at start, then reduced.
Can do trades on D2R or D2RotW

Some changes I liked, others I did not. My thought at the end of the day was this is a product of Blizzard not testing, not doing a good job with game design, and focusing on marketing first and fixing after.
Sunder/Herald should never have been released the way it was. Certain Warlock skills should never have been released the way they were. This was always bound to just continue frustrating players.
Best thing for us all would have been to announce ROTW, put it on a separate PTR to test this season for merger next season into standard realm. They could have still had the "surprise". Release in better state, and use the PTR to fine tune.
They are making a lot of changes, maybe too much. I fear this becoming like D4 where every few months they fix & break, buff & nerf, rinse & repeat. Warlock for example is now fully released and those expectations exist with players. No matter what changes they make, it is bound to disappoint. Debuting on a PTR would have placed more emphasis on players to know everything was going to change.
