There have been videos of this happening.

Unless the past or current teams had been or currently are incompetent, fixing this should be low hanging fruit.

Omitted a word...

Problem being that looking at any patch, change implementation or lack thereof immediately confirms that yes, they are utterly incompetent. So...don't get your hopes up.

Kinda glad I don't bother with rares or crafted stuff for any of my chars and hence don't run into this issue despite filled stashes but the fact that that thought is even a thing, let alone this long after release, is just pathetic.

This being fixed is about as likely as us finally getting working in-game chat. So...never.

Finally got a response from Blizzard: Frostfenic
Salutations Matt,

Thank you kindly for taking the time to reach out to us today. I hope that the day finds you well! •ᴗ•

Please report this issue to QA using the Diablo II: Resurrected Forums. https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/d2r/c/bug-report/17 Submissions posted there have the benefit of allowing a community discussion around high-impact bugs, which can occasionally help in prioritizing them. It will also allow you to check on existing bugs, as we also keep a list of known active issues at the top of that forum that all players can see.

Thanks again for your time and giving me the opportunity to address your issue Matt! Have a great day!

And my reply, although I am sure nothing will come of it:

You updated my ticket status to answered, but the issue has not been resolved. I am still missing several high value items. Upon further research, I realize that the problem arose when I moved a tab full of amulets and rings from my shared stash to my personal stash. The resulting high amount of data associated with the character file caused items to be deleted. I would like my items to be restored. This is a known issue that has been reported to Blizzard for over a year, and as far as I can tell, Blizzard has done nothing to address the issue. How long is Blizzard going to continue to ignore the problem, and how many more customers are going to have their hard earned items deleted? Referring me to a forum solves nothing. I am reporting the bug directly to you, although I am sure you are already aware of it. This should have been fixed long ago. You need to fix the issue or have an in game warning on the personal stash page. And again, I would like the items that I spent many, many hours earning to be restored.

We all know nothing's really gonna come of it but effectively just going "yeah, go QQ on the forums, stop bothering us, ignoring your actual issue/main request" is pretty pathetic even by blizz standards. Not that I'm in any way surprised.

That wasn't even a real response. It's a cut-and-paste form response with a variable capturing your first name.

The only way to get some kind of official response to this:

BLOW IT UP.
Social. Youtube. Twitter. Insta. and the quickest: TiT TOK.

If you like health,
String of Ears
is much better option. 8% Life Stolen Per Hit loved it on my hamerdian. Spiral hammer on large group of enemies you fully healed.

Ya, in case your post was not sarcasm :) , I don't have the time or the energy to follow that approach. Here is Blizz's second response. A literal /wave at the end of their reply lol.

Rhydryk
Hey there Matt, Specialist Game Master Rhydryk here!

Our ticket queues are MASSIVE lately due to the Wrath of the Lich King Classic, Overwatch 2, and Dragonflight launches back to back, so thank you so much for your patience! We're working as hard and as fast as we can to answer everyone's tickets.

That said, I understand you're missing a bunch of items in Diablo II: Resurrected.

Game Masters aren't able to see inventories or any sort of inventory history in the game, as much as I would love to be able to, so we couldn't even begin to say what happened to those items. I would assist with this in a heartbeat if we had the tools available to do so.

I would highly recommend that you report this as a bug on our official forums.
https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/d2r/c/bug-report/17

I know this likely isn't the answer you were hoping for, and I wish I could have brought a different one, but thanks for understanding.

I hope that despite this, you enjoy the rest of your day. Take care.

/wave

They need to build tooling for game masters to do that then - some way for them to query the database backups at around the time the bug was reported, in a user friendly way, so that they can restore lost items. They have this in place for all WoW titles (which are also just SQL databases) and routinely assist customers with hacked accounts to recover vanished items.
