One of the new patch 2.4 Runewords, Mist requires a 5 socket bow or Crossbow as its base item. This is expected to greatly improve the performance of Act 1 Mercs, Bowazons etc. through its synergistic Concentration aura and other interest modifiers such as piercing attack.

I've been playing D2R PTR as a Bowazon. The only bow they supplied to make a Mist was a 5OS Long War Bow, which is pointless. So I began farming but nothing seemed to be dropping, and then a day before PTR was shut down for a week I found a +1 to skills Grand Matron Bow. I used Larzuk to add 5 sockets and I made a Mist. I took a screenshot of it and I would upload it, but most forums don't allow image uploads.
The Damage is 62-331 (348% EHD), and it it rolled level 10 Concentration.
The second runeword available in 5 sox missile weapons. The other one is Call To Arms, traditionally used only as a prebuff and made in low req 1h weapons instead.
Seems like a viable runeword for lucky players who will obtain Cham rune. Probably the best when used by A1 Mercenary with Grand Matron Bow, but i suppose Amazons can use it just fine through hell difficulty too.
Although not as good for elemental bowzon as Ice, or as good for Physical bowzon as Faith, this is a great weapon for both that uses only 1 high rune and 5 socket grand matrons are still cheaper than 4 socket.
Mist was ladder only during Patch 2.4 and Patch 2.5 (Ladder Season 1 & 2). Since Patch 2.6 (Ladder Season 3) it is possible to create Mist in non-ladder.
The fellow with the gemmed superior Crusader Bow should have a proper Mist now. I made the same mistake and blizzard corrected it with the latest patch in nonladder.
I use it on my main character while my merc is using Faith. My off hand is a Windforce. I prefer Mist to Windforce because it is a lot more balanced (1600 - 6400 dmg Mist vs 900 - 7400 dmg on WF) and WF gives up a lot of quality attributes for only raw damage.
Compared to Pride offers much cheaper access to a (lower level) mercenary Concentration aura. The 100% Pierce adds further utility, and in my limited testing (combined with a +3 Grand Matron Bow) greatly improves the performance of Cold Arrow. Add something like Delirium for a curse proc, and you've got an interesting (if unconventional) mercenary setup.
With a damage-amplifying Concentration aura, 100% Piercing Attack, and the all-important +20% Increased Attack Speed, a Mist placed in a Matriarchal Bow is very well-suited to use by a Manic Pixie Dreamgirl follower. The only major downside to this use case is the lack of Life Leech on the weapon.
The aura provided by this weapon will add between 165% and 225% off-weapon enhanced damage, depending on the aura's level.
Excellent Semi-Budget bow for a physical Bowzon until get a Faith Bow. And a much cheaper way to grant Concentration aura using an A1 Merc, until you can make a Pride for an A2 Merc.
