Description

Ripsaw
is pretty good with its chance to open wounds...so could be a good upgrade...so is
Doomslinger
and others like
Chance Guards
, gold wrap, but are those a go to for hell as well? or just for NM normal?

any upgraded uniques you guys have used on hell? which worked nice on your NM/normal runs?

Goldwrap
is worth upgrading, as it increases its potion capacity.

I'm thinking its worth wasting a
Pul
over
Bloodletter
(for upgrade)?

goodluck, and may the RNG god be with you.

I'd consider upping a 3/4
Bloodletter
myself, and dual wield them :)

I upped a butcher’s pupil and shaeled it and it worked quite nicely before I got my Grief. Then I saw how inferior it was but before that it got me through nicely and the indestructibility is handy for a zealot

I think it is no problem to upgrade Normal to Exceptional, if just factor the resource to do so. The 2 Runes and the PGems are nothing when you reach hell. Elite is diffrent story.

The bigger problem i see is (in case of
Ripsaw
), that the requirement can increase dramatically (a
Zweihander
Ripsaw
needs 125 Str & 94 Dex). I considered to up a
Ripsaw
but i didn't want to invest that much stats.

You cannot, you can only upgrade Rares and Uniques.

Upgrading is usually not worth it.

Some weapons and perhaps a
Belt
to increase potion capacity while keeping requirements in mind.

Defense has very little value in Diablo2 and upgraded items are mostly worth to collectors if they are perfect base/roll defense to start with (and after upgrade).

I absolutely love double up'd Goblin Toes on kicksins and Conc barbs. Literally never use a different pair of shoes.

compare it to end game perhaps, but we're talking until.

or you have a comparison in mind where its not beneficial?

Level requirement can change as well. I upgraded a
Goldstrike Arch
and its lvl req went up to 70 from 46. Base
Hydra Bow
lvl req is 63.

It is not beneficial if you need to spend more stats to equip it. Defense is very close to most useless stat in game. Upgrading only makes sense if it improves your damage (weapons,
Boots
for kicksin, shield for smiter), gives potion slots for
Belt
or requires no extra investment.

anyway, its your choice not here to change your religion. if its your playstyle or your own preference. you see it in your game. I think its another fun aspect, you can always respec, if it doesn't suit ya.
or not, you can go all the way your way.

You comment like you literally are here to change religion, though.

Upgrading most(!) items, fun or not, is not reasonable unless seeking for the perfect roll (which requires perfect base to begin with). If you like to do it then go for it but your topic context invoke discussion and I provided.

Just wanted to mention because I don't think a lot of people know about this but we added values for ethereal/upped versions of all uniques and sets in the game on the website here.

So you can go to
Goblin Toe
for example and see what the def value would be if you upped to the Elite version of its base item, and what the def value would be if it was upped like that and also ethereal! :)

Thanks to the contributors for that data.

That is upgraded perfect defense though as base item defense gets picked from range of defense of new base item - it is not always maximum+1 even if item has enhanced defense (like it does when item is first dropped).

So, this data really shows what defense it could be, not would be.
