Introduction
There are several builds at 49 that are naturally stronger then most other builds. Light Trapper is one of these stronger builds.
All builds have their strengths and weaknesses. Light Trappers Strengths far outweigh their weaknesses. This build is all about mobility. Mobility is critical to beating any decent caster.
Without high mobility others will have a huge advantage.
Pro's:
- Traps auto-target
- Lightning Sentry [LS] Traps do massive damage, way more then Fire Traps and are especially effective versus Sorceress and characters that don't have a lot of life
- LS are great in team versus (TvT), Mind Blast and Psychic Hammer's really assist team mates in conjunction with LS
- LS are great versus nearly every build
- LS can relatively easy get massive stacked resist
- LS don't need a lot of faster cast rate versus most builds
Con's:
- LS take a moment to trigger and it can he hard to hit a running target
- LS can be absorbed, just like every elemental attack in the game
- Low life (around 1k -1.1k)
- LS are at a huge disadvantage versus bow Amazons
- Bad mannered (BM) players can absorb damage to such an extent that you do no damage
Break Points
- 42% IAS give max trap laying speed with Greater Talons. Level 8 Burst of Speed gives 42% IAS
- Aim for 65% faster cast rate
- Highest Weapon Block is 64% at level 49. Dexterity doesn't help for Weapon Block
- Aim to get above 1,1k hit points and above 500 mana, while keeping the maximum amount of skills

Things to know:
- Dragon Flight auto targets. This is good and bad. Good if you Dragon Flight kick your opponent. Bad if he has a minion and you Dragon Flight to the minion by accident.
- Nearly always try to name lock opponent with Mind Blast / Dragon Flight. this can set up a combo.
Dragon Flight does not work if your opponent is off screen.
- Combo: make sure you got Shadow Warrior. Dragon Flight the opponent. Mind Blast. If opponent moves away use Dragon Flight, else cast Lightning Sentry and Mind Blast's.
- Spirit Long Sword or claw with Shield against Amazon's. claw/claw against (nearly) everything else.
- Use the map to your advantage.
- Always recast your Shadow Warrior if it dies, works especially well against ranged opponents.
There is a 0.6 seconds casting delay after casting a Shadow Warrior.
- Remember where all 5 of your traps are. This is the difference between good and great players.
Lure opponents back to previous traps.
- Cast 5 traps on top of each other and wait for your opponent to Teleport close. Mind Blast, traps hit, dead.
- Casting a trap at each of the 4 corners of you screen, leave the 5th on you. Good defensive tip if you need a moment to regroup.
Strategies
Paladin
1. All paladins will at some point Charge you with an Oath. therefore you need a shield and Shaftstop. You will fail too many times without damage reduction.
2. Dual Claws with claw block vs paladins just does not cut it.
3. Whitstan's Guard in conjunction with a a Spirit Long Sword is what's needed when the paladin is on top of you. On switch you can have either Insight or 2 Claws (2/3).
4. Always have your Shadow Warrior out and ensure Burst of Speed is on.
5. Cast 3-4 Lightning Sentry In front of you and 1-2 traps behind you.
6. When you sense your opponents approach, switch to Spirit / shield slot and cast Mind Blast at your feet. It works.
7. Against Hammer's move a little away from his hammer's, while staying close to your traps.
8. Mind Blast / physic hammer combo your opponent, recast traps when required.
9. If dueling versus a Fist of the Heavens Paladin, unless you have massive stacked resist your 1-hit deleted. These duels will be fast.
However, 2 Claws with 60% light res is one way to get massive stacked resistance.
10. Faster run / walk is not needed vs paladins, so you can use a 3 to traps, 20% faster cast rate, 2 socket Circlet. (2 Magic jewels 30% lightning resist)
11. Don't Dragon Flight a paladin that is rushing you. Both Smite and Hammers hurt. a lot.
12. You cannot kill a paladin that uses more then 2 items of Lightning Absorb.
Energy Fire ball (ESFB) Sorceress
Claw/Claw and Insight on switch.
1. Randomly placing traps kills. fact.
2. Placing traps behind you can be very effective, as well as placing traps in unpredictable locations.
3. Make sure you have at least 80% fire resist ( Waterwalk's) after Anya.
4. Always have your Shadow Warrior out and ensure Burst of Speed is on.
5. Cast wide traps out at the edges of you screen. to regroup - 4 corners trap setup and a 5th in reserve.
6. Chasing is an option, just make sure to have 2 traps on your screen at all times.
7. Mind Blast in conjunction with Lightning Sentry helps. Learn to name lock Mind Blast.
8. Dragon Flight on Sorceress that are low on mana will help to get you back in their face, but be careful. ESFB is a very strong build.
9. wear Waterwalk's (+5 max fire res).
Blizzard Sorcress
Claw/Claw setup.
1. See ESFB Strategies
2. A cold sorc at level 49 can do massive damage. You need to stack cold resist in order to ensure that you are not 1-hit deleted. try getting x4 resist Claws.
3. Dragon Flight works better versus Blizzard then versus ESFB. just be careful not to DF into a blizzard.
4. aim for 300 cold resist. Gloves, Boots, Ring, amulet, Circlet, 2 Claws, resist jewel in armour, Belt.
Frozen Orb Sorceress
Claw/Claw setup.
1. See ESFB and Blizzard Strategies. Stack cold resist.
Light Sorceress
Claw/Claw setup.
1. See ESFB Strategies.
2. Ensure you have about 30% stacked lightning resist in case your opponent is using Rainbow Facet: Lightning Death. always keep 2-3 traps close, very similar to an orber.
Lightning Assassin
The Better player will win.
Claw/Claw setup.
Cast Lightning Sentry, get close, cast Mind Blast combo's.
Necromancer
1. Never give your opponent time to recover. Stay on top of them and be aggressive.
2. Try to lay a trap in the area that you think they will flee in. Or force them in that direction.
3. Keep the Shadow Warrior out at all times.
4. Do not play defensive against a Necromancer, you will dis to Invis Bone Spirits.
5. Some replenish life would help in this duel, as would Insight on switch (dual Claws on primary).
6. Try to corner a necromancer, this is the best way to kill him.
Javelin Amazon
1. Place some Lightning Sentry's in your opponents direction.
2. Cast Physic Hammer / Mind Blast if he starts his rush.
3. Using Shield / Claw or Shield / Spirit will save you a lot of the time against Light Fury. Make sure you have 75% light resist.
4. Replenish life helps in this duel as well, as does Insight if its a long duel.
Barbarian
1. Aim for 150%+ faster run / walk.
2. If the barb does not use Thundergod's Vigor, he is dead fast. if he does use it, and he is fast, be careful. This could be a long duel.
3. Lay traps, avoid his Whirlwind's. Using Mind Blast and physic hammer helps, but you have to be careful as he can still Whirlwind through either.
4. Try to lure the barbarian into your field of traps. A line of traps helps.
Bow Amazon
Amazons have a massive class advantage against you. Every 49'er bow amazon is going to have a bow that will savage your character.
They will either have a 8 frames per action bow (massive damage) or a 7 frames per action bow (worse, they fire faster at you).
There are 2 main ways to kill an amazon. neither way will give you a massive level of success. This will be your hardest match-up.
Option 1: Lay traps on corners of cubes in such a way that the amazon will run into them, cast Mind Blast / Lightning Sentry combo's. you might get lucky.
Option 2: Play aggressive and attempt Dragon Flight and chain combo's.
1. Always Wear Shaftstop and String of Ears.
2. Shield and Dragon Flight claw in this match-up.
3. Try to put the amazon in a corner (walk your traps to him). if he gets close, or you get close enough to him, Dragon Flight, Mind Blast, Lightning Sentry.
4. See Strategy versus Necromancers as well.
5. Practice, Practice, Practice.
Druid
Rabies: Treat like a Whirlwind Barbarian, but you can actually Mind Blast / physic hammer them more. Never try to tank a Rabies. Rabies only needs to hit you once.
Fury: Treat like a Rabies druid, you wont meet many at 49. You should never know if he is Rabies / Fury. don't get hit.
Tornado: Wear Shaftstop and String of Ears. Be careful of their faster run / walk, and if they have max resist, they could actually be dangerous. otherwise they should be one of your easiest opponents.
Not many of them at level 49.
