Most barbarians are fine with just a few points in this skill but builds that require high defense will want to max it and pair it with high-level Shout for the utmost defensive capacity.

If given the choice between investing in Shout or Iron Skin, Shout is generally preferred, if for no other reason than the duration increase to Battle Orders and Battle Command. With that said, most Barbarians should invest at least one point in this skill.
