It's useful to note that the Drain Life -5 has no effect on mercenaries (hirelings), and a Desert Mercenary armed with a MaliceHalberd is formidable, while waiting for Insight 12 levels later (for example).
Fun fact: Malice actually has -1 to Light Radius but because El Rune provides +1 to Light Radius, they cancel out and the +0 to Light Radius becomes hidden.
